Types of Exam

The civil service exam has two levels:

  • Subprofessional: For positions that require less complex skills.
    • Eligibility Level: The Sub-Professional exam is for individuals who have completed high school or a course that’s less than four years in duration.
    • Job Acceptance: If you pass the Sub-Professional exam, you’ll be eligible for first-level or clerical positions in government offices. These roles typically include clerks, tradespeople, craftspeople, and custodial staff.
    • Salary Grade Range: Sub-Professional eligibility is relevant for positions with Salary Grades 6 to 10. So, if you’re eyeing a job within this range, the Sub-Professional exam is a good fit
  • Professional: For positions that demand higher-level skills.
    • Eligibility Level: The Professional exam is open to anyone who is at least 18 years old, regardless of college education. Yes, you read that right—even if you’re not a college graduate, you can take the Professional Civil Service Exam!
    • Job Acceptance: Passing the Professional exam qualifies you for both clerical (first-level) and technical, executive, or managerial (second-level) positions in the government. So, if you’re aiming for roles with Salary Grade 11 and above, the Professional exam is your go-to choice.
